What’s a Stitch and Bitch?
A Stitch and Bitch (SnB/S&B) is a knitting group, usually meeting in a public place such as a café or pub.
How do I join?
You turn up with yarn and needles (or whatever craft you’re into). If you’re a complete novice, it might be nice to email the organiser first. They might be able to tell you what to prepare/bring or confess to not knowing much themselves!
How do I get my group/event listed on knitchicks?
Easily! email us with details, including the location (on streetmap.co.uk if possible) and any info you have on the venue (eg if it has a website or review). It is most important to include clear instructions on how to get there.
There is no group in my area, what can I do?
Start your own! All you need to do is choose a central location and a time (preferably not during daytime work hours) and then spread the word. We can list it here, and suggest other places as well.
Our group is not growing, what can we do?
Try speaking to your local newspaper about a small piece or announcement, same with local radio. Put up notices in community venues (libraries/halls/churches/colleges). Don’t give up!
I'm coming to London on holiday, what yarn shops can you recommend?
There are no yarn shops in central London. Seriously.
I buy my yarn from the lovely Rowan ladies at Liberty (3rd floor). John Lewis has a larger yarn department, but is very busy and crowded. Otherwise we tend to buy online from US stores* or eBay.
* duty is payable on items bought outside the EU above £18, excluding printed materials.
What other online knitting resources are there?
Loads. Feel free to email your suggestions.
